How do I enable TLS 1.2?

The latest versions of most browsers automatically have TLS (Transport Layer Security) 1.2 enabled. But if you’re using Internet Explorer 10, you’ll need to enable TLS 1.2 manually.

The following steps are for Internet Explorer 10. If you’re using a different browser and want to check your TLS settings, please refer to your browser help pages.

To enable TLS 1.2 on Internet Explorer 10, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select 'Tools' (this may be shown as a cog icon in the top right corner).
  3. From the menu, select ‘Internet options’.
  4. In the pop up box select the ‘Advanced’ tab.
  5. In the ‘Advanced’ list scroll down towards the bottom, to the ‘Security’ section.
  6. Here you’ll find the ‘Use TLS 1.2’ box. Make sure this box is ticked.
  7. Once you've ticked this, click ‘Apply’ then hit ‘OK’ to save the changes. If the box was already ticked just click ‘OK’.

If the tick options have been greyed out this means that you may need administration rights on your device or network to apply changes to advanced settings. If you can't enable this feature, please refer to your IT support team for assistance.
