Q:
How do I use my Smartcard and reader?
A:
Whenever Smartcard authorisation is required, you'll be presented with either a challenge code or a QR code.
If you see a challenge code on your approval screen
For original Smartcard reader:
- Put your Smartcard in to the card reader with the chip first and facing you, then turn the reader on
- Press sign when prompted
- Enter the challenge code from Bankline in to the card reader
- Enter your PIN in to the card reader
- The card reader will then generate a response code
- You’ll then need to enter this code in to Bankline to approve
For new QR Smartcard reader:
- Insert your card into the reader (with the chip down and facing you) to switch it on
- It will default to the camera view, ignore that and press the ‘Menu’ button followed by the number 1
- You should see a ‘challenge code’ on Bankline, enter this into your reader and press the green ‘OK’ button
- Enter your Smartcard PIN and press ‘OK’
- This will return a code on your reader. Enter this into the box on your Bankline screen (without spaces)
If you see a QR code on your approval screen
Using your new QR Smartcard reader:
- Insert your card into the reader (with the chip down and facing you) to switch it on
- It will default to the camera view, scan the QR code on your screen using the reader. If you're having trouble scanning the QR code, see our troubleshooting tips
- Once scanned, your reader will ask you to confirm what you're approving. Once you're happy the details are correct, click 'OK' on your reader
- You'll now be asked to enter your Smartcard PIN, enter this and press 'OK'
- Your reader will give you a 10 digit code, enter this into the boxes on your Bankline approval screen
